Advertising! - Monday, September 19, 2011
So I have a logo, business card and lookbook photos, next comes postcards and a notepad! I am excited that I am finally getting around to doing non-internet forms of advertising. A way I describe my shop style sometimes is as a mix of Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, so I went for two different style postcards. The first I think would appeal to my slightly older or more refined-taste crowd, while the other will target the younger or more funky audience and will be placed around colleges/etc. The notepad is so I can include little notes in online orders/etc. Getting a bunch of these printed from overnightprints.com and hoping it will bring in new customers! Anyway, I am excited for them, what do you think?!

Shop Photos September 2011 - Monday, September 19, 2011
I was contacted by a publication that wanted to come interview me and take some photos of the shop. That didnt pan out, but it did motivate me to pretty up the shop a bit. I added the tree that used to be in my window to the wall, which I really like because I never know what to do with all the wall space. Any interior designers want to help? haha. Anyway, I tried to fix up some displays and took some shop photos to show you all! Enjoy, IMG_4646-2

One Year Anniversary Party at Blackbird Attic - Monday, May 16, 2011
I had my one year anniversary party this past Saturday. I held a special sale where everything was 20% off and I made goody bags for the first 30 people. There was a reception held for Liza Corbett's artwork and to add something fun and different to the event, I set up a little mock photo booth. Overall it was a success!

I am happy with what the store has become and where it is heading. I'm always interested in improving the aesthetic and selection at Blackbird Attic. A couple ideas in the works are adding in a small kid's vintage section and to carry more handmade items.

Check out some images from the event below:

How to Wear Maxi Skirts - Tuesday, April 12, 2011
pic

The maxi skirt trend isn't brand new, but it does seem to be coming out in full-force this season. I posted a maxi skirt outfit the other day and I was never a huge fan of the way it was styled. I just saw an article on Refinery 29 about different ways to wear them, so I thought I'd share.

Here's a little summary- A maxi skirt is already a pretty powerful fashion statement, so you're best bet is to tone it down with something more basic and neutral. A cropped sweater or top works well, a tied crop top is especially sweet. Because the maxi skirt is so long, you can wear pretty much anything tucked into it including a tunic or bathing suit. If you're wearing a voluminous maxi skirt, don't be afraid to also wear a loose fitting shirt. Color blocking is also a huge trend for spring/summer and is easy to pull off with a basic color maxi skirt and top.
